Chicago-based CNA Financial Corp. and the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) announced York, Pa.-based Double D Roofing and Sheet Metal received its CNA/NRCA Community Involvement Award. The award honors acts of charity performed for communities by NRCA members.

Double D Roofing and Sheet Metal received a $7,500 donation from CNA to be bestowed to its charity of choice. The organization selected York-based Shadowfax Corp., which provides a variety of services for mentally, emotionally and physically challenged individuals and finds work for them.

Aaron Kock, assistant vice president and industry leader, underwriting for construction at CNA Commercial, said, “CNA recognizes and values the pride, passion and dedication of roofing contractors, and we are proud to recognize Double D for selecting and partnering with Shadowfax to make a greater impact beyond what Double D could accomplish on its own.”

Double D Roofing and Sheet Metal’s manufacturer, Nashville, Tenn.-based Firestone Building Products Co. Inc., ships screws and metal insulation plates to Shadowfax for its community to pre-assemble and re-package. Once complete, Double D Roofing and Sheet Metal installs the screws and metal insulation plates as part of Firestone rubber roof systems.

The award was presented during an awards ceremony and reception at NRCA’s 131st International Roofing Expo in New Orleans. Second and third place awards were given to Action Roofing Hawaii LLC, of Kapolei, Hawaii, and O’LYN Roofing, of Norwood, Mass. Action Roofing Hawaii received a $5,000 donation for its nonprofit partner, Kahauiki Village in Honolulu, and O’LYN Roofing, received a $2,500 donation for its nonprofit partner, The Home for Little Wanderers in Boston.

Reid Ribble, chief executive officer at NRCA, said, “Each year, the roofing industry shows such tremendous generosity by giving back to their communities in so many wonderful ways. This award allows us to shine a light on the strong giving spirit that exists within our industry, and I am proud to be a part of it.”

CNA has been the endorsed carrier of NRCA for more than 48 years, and offers comprehensive, flexible insurance programs that address the needs of roofing contractors. “CNA is committed to keeping roofing contractors safe, ultimately so they can return home to their families each and every night,” Kock said.
