ASTM International’s committee on building seals and sealants (C24) presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Christopher White of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Md. The prestigious award, which includes the title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contribution to developing standards.

White was honored for meritorious and dedicated service to the committee, with a commitment to standards development in the areas of building seals and sealants, and for respected technical expertise, outstanding leadership, and exemplary professionalism.

An ASTM International member since 2002, White has also received the Lou Toporcer Hall of Fame Award (2013) and the Award of Appreciation (2008) from the committee and the Distinguished Service Award (2009) from the committee on homeland security (E54).

White, a research chemist at NIST, has held his current position since 1999, starting with the company as a post-doc since 1997, as well as a post-doc at the University of Connecticut. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Wabash College, an MBA from the University of Maryland, and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin.

In addition to ASTM, White is a member of the Society of Rheology, American Chemical Society, Society of Plastics Engineers, American Physical Society, and the Adhesion Society.
