The Steel Framing Alliance (SFA) and Super Stud Building Products Inc. are sponsoring two webinars in April: 1) “Specifiers Guide to Cold-Formed Steel Framing-2” will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at 12:00 p.m., and 2) “Cold-Formed Steel Framing in Mid-Rise and Multi-Family Structures” will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. Each webinar provides participants with 1 LU/HSW from the American Institute of Architects.
“Specifiers Guide to Cold-Formed Steel Framing – 2” will provide architects and specifiers with the tools necessary to successfully design cold-formed steel frame projects. Participants will learn how to apply guidelines and requirements as outlined in the American Iron and Steel Institute’s cold-formed steel standards and the building codes. They will learn how to avoid common, yet costly, errors made on plans and contract documents, as well as how to locate the many resources and technical assistance available to design professionals. “Cold-Formed Steel Framing in Mid-Rise and Multi-Family Structures” will provide architects with the tools necessary to design with cold-formed steel. The session includes an overview of the latest advancements in cold-formed steel, practical uses and applications, and guidance for contract documents. The webinar will cover cold-formed steel design focused on protecting the public and the environment. The session includes design intervention as it relates to cold-formed steel, codes, best-practice life safety systems, sustainability, energy compliance and acoustics. Both webinars will be presented by Don Allen, P.E., director of engineering for Super Stud Building Products, Inc., where he oversees product development, testing, engineering and technical services. Allen has worked in the cold-formed steel industry since 1990 as a cold-formed steel specialty engineer, engineer-of-record, and industry representative before his current position with a stud manufacturer. He concurrently served for more than nine years as technical director for three associations in the cold-formed steel industry: Steel Stud Manufacturers Association (SSMA), Steel Framing Alliance (SFA) and Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI). He chairs the Education Subcommittee of the American Iron and Steel Institute’s Committee on Framing Standards and Committee on Specifications. He was the recipient of the 2013 CFSEI Distinguished Service Award.
