Columbia, Md.-based Vectorworks Inc. and the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) announced winners of the fall 2019 In Studio Render/Sketch competition. In its third year, AIAS members were asked to share sketches and renderings to highlight studio work and provide inspiration for those looking to enhance their own skills. This competition was open to all years and skill sets.

“The jury had a tough time deliberating with the tremendous entries this time around,” said Sarah Curry, president at AIAS. “The caliber of applicants improves every time, and we chose the selected winners based on their ambition, ability and artistry. Each of the contestants who placed was able to convey the emotion and atmosphere of the project and site through a mastery of their craft.”

The winners are:

  • First place: Alex Geisen, of Washington State University, Pullman, Wash.
  • Second place: Deiland Slaughter, of Fairmont State University, Fairmont, W.Va.
  • Third place: Lauren Wertz, of Auburn University, Auburn, Ala.

“As part of the submission process, AIAS members had to tag Vectorworks’ Instagram handle when they uploaded their designs, and it was phenomenal to witness all of the inspiring and creative design submissions from students,” said Alice Lowy, marketing programs director at Vectorworks. “The fundamental mission for Vectorworks is enabling great design to occur. We’re grateful for our continued partnership with AIAS, and it’s wonderful to see great designs materializing with the future generation of architects.”
