W.S. Steel Erection of San Antonio, has been named the 2013 Mid-West Builder of the Year.

Ryan Sweet is the owner of W.S. Steel Erection, and his wife, Lynda, is his partner in the company. They started the business in 2002, and began purchasing buildings from Mid-West the same year.

“Ryan and his team do quality work and are very well respected in the industry. They’re also loyal Mid-West Steel customers and we’re happy to recognize them as our 2013 Builder of the Year,” Mid-West President Ed Kohutek said during the announcement.

Javier Rodriguez, who is Mid-West’s District Manager for W.S. Steel Erection, has high praise for Sweet. “Ryan is great to work with and he and his team are very hard working.”

Their company is a model of efficiency. They have to be, to manage the 50-75 steel projects they complete every year. W.S. Steel Erection has purchased many types of buildings from Mid-West, including more than a million square feet of Mid-West Long Bay projects for a single large Texas retail customer in just the past four years. And all buildings were delivered on-time and on budget. It’s no surprise that Ryan and his crew have a lot of repeat business and many loyal clients.

One of his grocery store projects was particularly challenging due to its complexity-it was 200,000 square feet and had a 6:12 roof slope with hips and valleys. In addition, it required the purlins to be bolted to wooden trusses that spanned 120 feet.

This is W.S. Steel Erection’s second time to earn the Mid-West Builder of the Year award.
