The Metal Construction Association (MCA) is offering a Metal Roofing Installation Manual with an online exam available at
www.metalconstruction.org.

The manual is a free download, which includes 20 chapters and hundreds of pages and illustrations to help ensure industry best practices are used when installing metal roofs. The accompanying online exam was designed to confirm that installers and contractors have a full grasp of the best practices outlined in the manual.

Both are valuable resources to educate new and experienced metal roofing installers. “I have found tremendous interest from installing contractors in using MCA’s Metal Roof Installation Manual as a platform to train their existing and incoming workforce. As the entire construction trade is experiencing a lack of trained and qualified personnel, this manual can be used as a comprehensive training program and the option of the exam identifies an individual’s comprehension of the materials,” said Jim Bush of ATAS International, who contributed significantly to the development of the manual and exam.

The exam includes tests for each different chapter with 10 questions each. A “Save and Resume” feature is enabled for the participant’s convenience. Each question addresses the various topics of metal roof installation and related accessories and includes questions pertaining to both new construction reroofing and retrofit projects. A certificate of completion is sent electronically to successful participants. Unsuccessful participants may retake the exam at no additional charge. The exam is available for $100 from the association’s online store accessible at
www.metalconstruction.org.

The Metal Roofing Installation Manual covers all types of panels, connectors, roof deck substrates, common roof accessories, sealants, fasteners seam joining, handling of materials, code and safety issues, and more.

“The Metal Roof Installation Manual is an excellent overview of the basic issues related to the proper installation of metal roofing systems. Contractors and installers will find the material to be very helpful to them and their crews. The completion of the MCA program and exams will prepare a contractor and/or installer for subsequent certification programs offered by distinct metal panel manufacturers. We are also looking into opportunities to use the manual as a curriculum in Technical Institutes and technology colleges,” says MCA’s Technical Director Scott Kriner.

The MCA Roofing Installation Manual was created in collaboration with the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) and the National Roofing Contractors Association. Assistance was provided from MBCI, Fabral, ATAS International Inc., and Metal Roof Advisory Group, Ltd.
